Our Panama Abu Natural Geisha is here. With notes of hard candy and fruit finish, each flavor echoes the landscape of Cañas Verdes, Boquete, Panama. The beans are grown in rich, volcanic soil at 1550 masl and receive lots of sunshine, with soft, tropical fog and mist covering the mountains and valleys in the mornings and evenings.

Natural: Is the traditional “classic” natural, without fermentation, process where the red burgundy cherries/fruits are left overnight and then the next morning the fruits are sent to the beds. Our Abu Geisha is a natural processed coffee that is dried on raised beds for 21 days.

ABU Coffee was named in honor of José Guillermo Luttrell Tedman, continuing his dream of achieving what he considered the best of a cup of coffee: a geisha raised with the highest standards of quality. “Abu” is short for Abuelo, grandfather in Spanish, and his family is working to preserve his legacy for generations to come.

ABU COFFEE participated in Best of Panama (BOP) for the first time in 2017 with its GEISHA WASHED RESERVA LUTTRELL, winning 6th place with a score of 91.516. ABU Coffee also participated at 2018 BOP competition, achieving 12th place with its Geisha Natural & 15th place with its Geisha Washed.

ABU COFFEE is a Geisha varietal cultivated in the region of Cañas Verdes, Boquete in a humid and rainy microclimate typical of the tropical forest. Coffee trees are grown on the slopes of the Barú Volcano National park in fertile, profound soils of volcanic origin rich with organic content and excellent drainage, minimizing erosion.

Average altitude is 1550 meters above sea level. The shade protecting the plantation is given by native trees that grow in harmony with abundant local flora and fauna, respecting the environment and biodiversity. Given its strategic geographic location, sunlight is a key element throughout the whole process. The coffee plantation receives powerful sunlight, interrupted in the mornings and evening sunsets by a soft tropical mist known locally as Bajareque, caressed by thick fog.

Harvest season begins in summer, approximately December and extends until March, months when the humidity drops, which combined with the natural shade and the Bajareque mist, achieves the perfect balance for the maturation process. As a result, the cherries develop their maximum potential and intensify the sugars in an optimal manner, enriching the flavor of the grain.

ABU COFFEE is grown in virgin rainforests, an extraordinary microclimate that allows our Geisha Coffee a distinct coffee with body and personality, notable with its intense, juicy flavor and aromatic floral notes. Even though ABU COFFEE is a young geisha farm, they are off to an incredible start, scoring 91.516 and winning 6th place at BOP’s 2017 competition with their Washed Geisha Reserva Luttrell.

This is the beginning of a great story dedicated to the dream of a man aiming to deliver the best in a cup of geisha coffee.

strawberry and floral notes - divine!

I like espresso, so that's how I make almost all of my coffee drinks. I made a couple of expresso shots with this - the first, a little over extracted had the floral notes dominant. The second, which I think was much better, had both strawberry and floral. Then I made them into iced cappaccinos. So delightful. Like a strawberries and cream in a coffee way. (Does that make sense?) Anyway, it lived up to expectation and I can't wait to finish the bag. It's a little more expensive but worth it for a special treat.

Thrilling

So much soft playfulness coming out of the cup. The first impression is that you are sipping a floral (jasmine/citrus) forward tea but then the backbone of a great coffee gives structure on the palate, and you are left with a cup that allows you to taste the 'ingredients' and complete 'dish' at one and the same time. A different cup was also expressed depending on brew method: Aeropress vs Technivorm. That made for fun as well.
