SCA Intro to coffee

This workshop is ideal for coffee lovers who want to learn more about where coffee comes from and how to choose coffees that fit their preferred style.


In this SCA Intro to coffee course, we’ll chart coffee’s journey from its origins in Ethiopia to today's major commodity. This course gives a general overview of the specialty coffee supply chain and explores topics such as history and cultivation, variables that affect coffee quality, basics of sensory analysis, fundamentals of roasting, factors of coffee freshness, and principles of brewing. In addition, we will discuss the importance of water quality, cleanliness, and maintenance. This interactive course also includes a cupping, an industry-specific process for evaluating coffee through a sensory experience.

Session 10:00 AM - 2:30 PM

An optional online written exam is available to take upon completing the course. Taking and passing the exam results in 10 points towards the Specialty Coffee Association’s Coffee Diploma. There is an additional fee for the exam.
