On the Road Again

On the Road Again

As Earth Month comes to a close, our mind keeps drifting toward the trails, the open road, and the great outdoors. Planning a weekend trip from LA to San Francisco? We’ve got coffee and hiking recommendations to make your next adventure one for the books.

Day 1:

Check out this road trip guide on Google Maps.

First stop? Klatch Coffee

First stop before hitting the road? Klatch Coffee, obviously. Especially if you’re camping, don’t forget to stock up on our single-serve coffees, perfect for outdoor adventures.

Next up? Pre-hike coffee.

Before hiking in Sequoia National Park, stop by Sequoia Coffee Co. in Three Rivers (Just like Klatch, they are local and family run. With excellent coffee and to-go breakfast options, this is your last opportunity for coffee before Sequoia. (Please note that they are open for breakfast/lunch, closing at 2 PM. Frequently recommended as a pre-hike stop)

You made it! Time to switch to your Chacos or hiking boots

Check out this guide for recommendations for places to stay in or near Sequoia, park pass information, and information about 12 popular hikes. If you want to go straight to trail information, check out top hikes on All Trails

We recommend Tokopah Falls (4.0-mile out and back, recommended in the Spring/Summer with the snow and one of the few waterfall hikes in Sequoia) and Emerald Lake (10.3-mile out and back, with significant elevation change) for two moderate difficulty hiking adventure options.

Day 2:

Check out the road trip guide for these stops on Google Maps

First up, morning coffee

Timing is everything. If you’re looking for a coffee shop open both late and early in Fresno, check out Bab Al-Yemen Cafe, open from 7 AM-10 PM. With iced latte options, Yemini coffee and cuisine, and a cozy ambience, it’s a lovely stop.

Next up, lunch and coffee overlooking the bay

If you’re looking to soak in the view before you go over the Golden Gate Bridge, check out Equator Coffees (Equator Round House on Yelp). With hot and iced sweetened lattes, pour overs, and breakfast and lunch options, it’s a great stop with phenomenal views of the bridge and bay.

Hiking in Golden Gate National Recreation Area

When choosing a hike in Golden Gate National Recreational Area, it all depends on which view you’re looking for. We recommend Coastal and Fox Trails loop (6.3 mile loop) for beautiful coastal and mountain views or Alta Trail (4.7 mi out and back) for amazing views of the bay.

Day 3: Choose your own adventure

We’d recommend traveling on a long weekend so that you have time to enjoy the drive back (or plan a weeklong trip to enjoy more hikes and coffee stops!). However, if you need to get back right away, you’re looking at a 7 hour straight shot drive from SF to LA.

If you’re staying in SF for the evening and looking for something unique to add to your travel itinerary, check out The Game Parlour, San Francisco’s first board game cafe. They are open until 10 PM and also offer take-out if you’re heading back on the road.

If you’d rather brew your own coffee for the trip, don’t forget to stock up on Klatch Coffee before you head out. Have you taken our “find your beans” quiz yet?
